Kathy Hochul, the governor of New York who now finds
herself in a budget
bind, is pleading for the rich ex-New Yorkers who found safe haven from her
punitive progressive policies in the Sun Belt to return north. For her to call
all the ones who stayed put despite the hostile tax environment “patriotic”
shows some audacity. Wealthy people don’t have to put up with government abuse
of their hard-earned money; they can just leave. Now that Hochul’s tax base has
run out on her, she’s resorted to begging, although still with a slighting tone
toward businesspeople. She should have thought of all this before she told
Republican New Yorkers they were aliens
in their own state and to pound sand on down to Florida.
I grew up there among New York transplants, so I know:
You’ll have to pry the golf cart keys from their cold, dead hands.
