Documents recovered on the bodies of Hamas operatives killed during last Saturday’s raid reveal that the terrorist group intentionally targeted schools and civilians, NBC has learned.
The documents, which were labeled “top secret” in Arabic and first found by emergency medical responders, show satellite images of Israeli border communities with attack plans instructing “Combat unit 1” to “contain the new Da’at school.” Meanwhile, “Combat unit 2” was directed to “collect hostages,” “search the Bnei Akiva youth center,” and “search the old Da’at school.”
Another captured intelligence briefing labeled “Top Secret Maneuver” outlined a coordinated attack by two Hamas units explicitly directing terrorists to “kill as many as possible” as well as “capture hostages.”
Evidence emerging in the wake of the devastating October 7 attack points to stunning levels of brutality. “I saw murdered babies. I saw murdered children. I saw mothers and children murdered together,” Yossi Landau, a leader with ZAKA, a leading Israeli medical emergency group, told NBC.
Part of the trove of documents publicized on Friday showed Hamas designated two strike groups to lay siege to the town of Kfar Sa’ad, even making allowances for the precise route of attack. “Group 1 assembly point: HAMZA transportation: one jeep and four motorbikes . . . . Group 2 assembly point: ABDEL RAHMAN transportation: one jeep and four motorbikes.”
“Length of platoon train: approximately 125 meters. . . . Shape and length of each group on the motorbikes: 50 meters for each group.”
The level of intricacy in the captured documents shocked one IDF source. “The dental office, the supermarket, the dining hall,” the person, speaking on conditions of anonymity, told the outlet on Friday. “The level of specificity would cause anyone in the intelligence field’s jaw to drop.”
Israel formally declared war on Hamas last Sunday, a first for the Jewish State since the 1973 Yom Kippur War. “Hamas wants to murder us all. This is an enemy that murders children and mothers in their homes, in their beds, an enemy that abducts the elderly, children and young women, that slaughters and massacres our citizens, including children, who simply went out to enjoy the holiday,” Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu released in a public message on X, the social-media platform formerly known as Twitter.
“What happened today is unprecedented in Israel — and I will see to it that it does not happen again. The entire government is behind this decision. The IDF will immediately use all its strength to destroy Hamas’s capabilities. We will destroy them and we will forcefully avenge this dark day that they have forced on the State of Israel and its citizens.”
Over 1,300 Israelis were killed in the onslaught, most of whom were civilians.
