Yesterday,
Donald Trump said something stupid and grotesque about the attacks in Israel,
and so, today, of course, his acolytes are running around the
Internet either explaining what Trump really meant, or explaining why Trump is

in the year 2023, Trump remains a “thing.”
Seriously:
why? The logic seems completely circular to me. Trump needs to be defended at
all times because he’s likely to be the nominee, and he’s likely to be the

the nominee, and because he’s likely to be the nominee then he
must be defended, because he’s going to be the
nominee and we must defend the person who is going to be the nominee, which is
Donald Trump — and that’s why, when Donald Trump criticizes Israel after the
worst attack on its people in its history and says that Hezbollah is “very
smart,” we must ignore it and change our politics on a dime and call out anyone
who thinks differently, because, you see, Donald Trump is going to be the
nominee, and anyone who criticizes him is hurting the party, whose nominee is
likely to be Donald Trump, because . . .
