The Huffington Post notes that:
Georgia gubernatorial
candidate Stacey Abrams (D) apologized on Tuesday for appearing
maskless while posing for photos with masked schoolchildren last week.
The apology:
“In the excitement after I
finished, because it was so much fun working with those kids, I took a picture,
and that was a mistake. Protocols matter, and protecting our kids is the most
important thing, and anything that can be perceived as undermining that is a
mistake, and I apologize,” she added.
But this can’t possibly be right, for as Abrams told us last
week, not only did she do nothing wrong, the very idea that she might have
erred was “a false political attack,” “a pathetic, transparent, and silly
attack,” a distraction, and probably racist:
It is shameful that our opponents
are using a Black History Month reading event for Georgia children as the
impetus for a false political attack, and it is pitiful and predictable that
our opponents continue to look for opportunities to distract from their failed
records when it comes to protecting the public health during the pandemic. One
of Stacey’s opponents downplayed the virus while trading stock to profit off
the pandemic after his private coronavirus briefings as a Senator. Another of
her opponents attacked mayors seeking to protect their citizens and has failed
to expand access to Medicaid even as rural hospitals close. This pathetic, transparent
and silly attack is beneath anyone who claims he wants to lead Georgia.
Last week, Republicans had pounced and seized and
swooped, and Abrams had “snapped back.” And now she’s apologizing?
Why, it’s almost as if . . .
