The
hilarious Remy sang last year that we’re living in a clown world, where up is down, down is up,
absurd situations are treated as if they’re normal, everything dumb is
permitted, and everything that would be helpful or common sense is restricted
or made absurdly difficult by idiotic government rules and regulations.
The fact
that Dianne Feinstein has the power of a
senator but not her own power of attorney would be another vivid demonstration of
our clown world. The New York Times reported that Katherine
Feinstein, 66, senator Feinstein’s only child, has power of attorney over her
mother’s legal affairs. (You know our governing class is spectacularly ancient
when they have children old enough to collect Social
Security. I can now
understand why certain lawmakers are so eager to get Americans to stop using
fossil fuels, because they themselves are not that far away from reaching the
status of fossil fuels.)
An
individual transfers power of attorney to a trusted friend or family member in
several circumstances. Some are mundane, like an inability to be in attendance
at a meeting that requires signing legal documents. But other situations
include a person being mentally incompetent or unable to represent herself.
Feinstein and her mother have determined that it is best if Dianne Feinstein
does not represent herself in legal matters. But it is apparently just fine and
dandy for her to continue to represent California in the Senate.
